The Bipolar Peer Support Group, also known as the Green Ribbon Group, convened on 25th July 2024 at 10:00 AM. The meeting began with a prayer, setting a reflective and supportive tone for the gathering. The peer group facilitator welcomed the attendees, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere.
Dr. Pfizer, a psychiatrist from RCMT, delivered the introductory speech. He discussed the origins and objectives of the group, highlighting the importance of peer support in managing bipolar disorder. Dr. R.V. Damodharan, Medical Superintendent at RCMT, provided the presidential address. His speech underscored the significance of community support and collaborative efforts in mental health care. Mr. Sivadasan, President of the Manorama Press Club, Chavakkad, gave a special address. His speech focused on the role of media and public awareness in reducing stigma around mental health issues. Dr. Anju Krishna, Consultant Psychiatrist at RCMT, delivered the keynote address. She emphasized the importance of effective treatment and ongoing support for individuals with bipolar disorder.
The report of the meeting and activities was read by Sabeena, the peer group facilitator, providing an overview of the group’s progress and upcoming plans. Mrs. Jency Joseph facilitated the education ensuring that the meeting proceeded smoothly and on schedule. Mrs. Princy and Ms. Aparna provided group psycho-education on mania and depression, offering valuable insights and practical advice to attendees.
Recovery Warrior Awards were distributed by Mrs. Jency, Dr. Pfizer, and Dr. Anju Krishna. These awards recognized individuals for their resilience and progress in managing their mental health.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Shahida, the peer group facilitator, expressing gratitude to all speakers, facilitators, and participants for their contributions to the meeting’s success.
