The Green Ribbon Group Meeting, focused on awareness and support for Bipolar Disorder, was a successful event featuring informative sessions, community interaction, and a celebratory atmosphere.
The meeting began with a dynamic flashmob presented by the Rajah Nursing School students, which served as an orientation for World Mental Health Day. The flashmob highlighted the importance of this year’s global theme: “Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies.”
The formal proceedings immediately followed with the Prayer, thoughtfully led by the Thanal Inmates. This segment set a solemn and reflective tone for the day’s events.
The session was inaugurated with the Welcome Speech delivered by Mrs. Shahidha, a dedicated Peer Support Group (PSG) member. She warmly greeted the attendees and introduced the purpose of the gathering. This was followed by the Introductory Remarks from Dr. Pfizer, Consultant Psychiatrist, who emphasized the crucial role of peer support and group collaboration in mental health recovery.
The group’s recent activities and achievements were summarized during the Report Reading, presented by Mrs. Sabeena, a Peer Support Group (PSG) member. The reading informed the attendees about the progress and future goals of the group.
The educational highlight was the session titled “Understanding Bipolar Disorder,” delivered by Dr. Indhu Joshy, Consultant Psychiatrist from Daya Hospital. Her presentation provided essential clinical information and practical insights into managing the condition. Following her session, Dr. IndhuJoshy was presented with a gift as a token of gratitude from the Rajah Rehabilitation Centre.
Following this, Dr. Anjukrishna, Consultant Psychiatrist, was honored in a special Felicitation ceremony. This acknowledged her contributions to the field of psychiatry and the support extended to the group. Dr. Anjukrishna and Dr. Pfizer were also presented with gifts on behalf of the Green Ribbon Group, recognizing their guidance and expertise.
The latter part of the program was dedicated to engagement and community building. Attendees participated in Sharings, where they were given the important opportunity to share their personal experiences, fostering a supportive and empathetic environment. This open dialogue served as a powerful source of mutual encouragement.
This was followed by Games, an activity successfully coordinated by the Psychology Trainees, which provided a fun, interactive moment for group bonding. The segment offered light relief and promoted social connection.
The meeting concluded with the Vote of Thanks, delivered by Mrs. Beena, a Peer Support Group (PSG) member, who expressed gratitude to all participants, speakers, and coordinating teams for making the gathering a success. Her words formally ended the day’s proceedings on a note of appreciation.
