Observation visit conducted by Sree narayana college of nursing , Kochi

An observation visit was conducted by Sri Narayana College of Nursing, Ernakulam to Rajah Rehabilitation Centre, Muthuvattoor, Chavakkad on 23.10.2025. A total of 45 BSc Nursing students participated in the visit, accompanied by two faculty members.

The objective of the visit was to provide students with exposure to the functioning of a psychiatric rehabilitation setting and to enhance their understanding of the multidisciplinary approach in mental health care.

The team was welcomed by the staff members of Rajah Rehabilitation Centre. An orientation session on the history, mission, services provided by psychiatric department, thanal day care centre etc. was delivered by Ms. Princy Rijo, Social Worker at Rajah Rehabilitation Centre. Students were familiarized with the rehabilitation services offered for persons with mental illness and substance use disorders, including therapeutic activities, counselling, occupational therapy, group sessions, relapse prevention strategies, and reintegration plans.

As part of the visit, a cultural programme was organised under the leadership of Ms. Aparna Francis, Social Worker at Rajah Rehabilitation Centre. Thanal inmates performed cultural items, and one of the visiting nursing students presented a song, adding warmth and cultural exchange to the event.

The faculty and students expressed their sincere gratitude to the management and staff of Rajah Rehabilitation Centre for their hospitality, valuable inputs, and the opportunity to observe the practical aspects of mental health care delivery.
