Organization Visit Report April 2018

The staffs of the Rajah Rehabilitation Center have visited 3 organizations as a part of continuous learning in work. Social workers and supervisors take part in the visit. The organization visit was organized on 27th march 2018.
The organizations visited are:
1. Swasraya charitable trust: swasraya special child development and vocational training centre for the differently abled is located at Kuttur village, Thrissur. There are dealing with 4 disorders like mental retardation, cerebral palsy, autism, multiple disabilities. They have a vast infrasture facility with three building and agricultural field for farming facility. The organization has a strong family support group.
Their programmes
•They are providing a remedial educational basis for the students. There classes are divided into pre- primary, primary, secondary, pre-vocational and vocational. They are following a normal curriculum for those with special needs. The programs have build in creative inputs like music, sports/ games, P.T, drama, painting craft, dance and field trips, in additions to social skills and community mobility etc.
•They are providing therapeutic services like yoga exercises, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, counseling, speech therapy ect.
•Vocational training and employment services like bag making, cover making, food items jewelry materials, farming ect
•Exhibiting talents at Special Olympics, attempting exams through the continuing education programs and national open school.
•Providing holistic care to the differently abled children and their parents.

2.Pakkal veedu: A day care centre for mental patients introduced under the Thrissur District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) this is the day-care facility under DMHP. They can accommodate up to 30 patients a day. They pick their inmates from their home in vehicle and bring them to the Pakal Veedu. They will be given simple vocational training programmes that would assure them an income at the end of the day or month. They have 14 vocational units which include tailoring, cover making, crafts, jewelry making, and detergent making ect. They would be dropped back at their houses in the evening. The aim is to be making them financially, mentally and physically fit and give them normal life back. The facility at Pullazhy will be used to take care of women.

3.AMHA: Association for Mentally Handicapped Adults is a non- governmental and non- profit social welfare organization registered under the charitable societies registration act, and based in thrissur. AMHA seeks to provide a home for destitute mentally handicapped adults where they can live with love, dignity and self esteem. They have 50 inmates. They provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and vocational therapy. Counseling for patients and care givers, conduct social awareness programme, conduct medical inspection among destitute sections of the population and provide help Most of the members are old aged. The organization also has an orphanage facility in which they look after the inmates who don’t have any one to look after. They have many occupational units like umbrella making, candle making, crafts, jewelry ect. The in-charged of the organization is Dr. Bhanumathi.
