Report on Community Extension Visit by NSS Unit of mother arts and science college, peruvalloor on 06/01/2025

On 6th January 2025, 20 students from the NSS unit of Mother Arts and Science College, Peruvalloor, participated in a community extension program at Thanal Rehabilitation Center. They were accompanied by their tutor and actively engaged in various activities aimed at providing support and interaction with the inmates.
The visit commenced with an informative orientation session led by a social worker. The session covered the following topics:
1. The activity schedule of Thanal Rehabilitation Center.
2. An overview of mental illnesses and their symptoms.
3. Substance addiction and its effects, including alcohol, cannabis (kunja), MDMA, and smoking.
After the orientation, the students engaged with the inmates through various recreational and co-curricular activities.
The students organized and participated in games to foster interaction and bring joy to the inmates.
The students performed dances and sang songs, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere.
The program concluded with the distribution of sweets among the inmates, marking a gesture of warmth and goodwill.
The visit was a half-day program and provided a valuable opportunity for students to understand social issues, promote inclusivity, and create memorable moments for the inmates.
The NSS unit expressed gratitude to the management of Thanal for allowing them to conduct the program and vowed to continue similar initiatives in the future.
