SCHIZOPHERNIA PEER SUPPORT GROUP MEETING 03/09/2019

Peer support Groups are comprised of individuals who share a common disorder. These types of groups are focused on providing mentoring,emotional,social support,information,education and practical help to each other.

Ninth meeting of Silver Ribbon Group ,Peer Support Group for Persons with Schizophernia disorder was held on 3th September 2019 at Rajah Community Hall. The theme of this Group meeting was:

“COPING WITH HALLUCINATION”

The meeting started with the welcome note by Peer support group facilitator Mr.Suresh Kumar.Ms.Vincy read the minutes of previous meeting followed by presidential address by our Dr.N.Pfizer.

Mr.A.Abdul Nafi,Trustee released an attractive Booklet on “CRISIS INTERVENTION”

psychoeducation classes were conducted  on topics-

Dr.N.Pfizer,Psychiatrist-A talk on  Schizophrenia and its latest Medications

Ms.Christy –Coping with Hallucinations

Mrs.Kavitha,Clinical Pschologist-Brief talk on Cognitive behaviour therapy for Delusions and                               Hallucinations

Dr.Soni Shaji,Consultant Naturopath-Role of Nutrition in Schizophernia

Mr.Jayaram-Demo on therapeutic yoga postures and pranayama in schizophernia

The main high light of the program was Sharing lived experience by 3 patients. Its was all about the sharing of illness experience, strength and hope. Under Group recreation activity, patients were made to sit in 7 groups of 6 members each and were given a picture. Each group were given the task of making a story of the given picture and to read out to all. It was an audible treat for all gathered because each group had a different way of thinking and the story to tell from the given common picture, which was well appreciated by all.

Likewise a separate session was arranged for the care givers and they had a class by Dr.N.Pfizer This session also gave importance on sharings of Family Carers support members and almost all the participants shared their feelings and experiences. The very good interaction session went on between the care givers and the Doctor.

Tea and snacks were distributed to all. 100 attendances were present for the meeting.

The next Silver Ribbon Schizophernia peer support meeting is scheduled in the month of November
