SCHIZOPHERNIA PEER SUPPORT GROUP MEETING 30/04/2019

Peer support Groups are comprised of individuals who share a common disorder. These types of groups are focused on providing mentoring,emotional,social support,information,education and practical help to each other.
Eighth meeting of Silver Ribbon Group ,Peer Support Group for Persons with Schizophernia disorder was held on 30th April 2019 at Rajah Community Hall. The theme of this Group meeting was:
“LEARNING TO LOVE MYSELF DESPITE MY SCHIZOPHRENIA”
The meeting started with the welcome note by Peer support group facilitator Ms.Saj followed by presidential address by our Dr.N.Pfizer.
Mr.A.Abdul Azim released an attractive poster ‘SCHIZOPHRENIA-Etiology and treatment’. Mr.Sivadasan (Press Club President,Chavakkad) addressed the gathering with his motivational speech.

Dr.Soni Shaji,Consultant Naturopath-Role of Nutrition in Schizophernia and Diet in Obesity
Mr.Meenakshi Karthik,MSc Yoga-Demo on therapeutic yoga postures in schizophernia
The main high light of the program was Sharing lived experience by 5-6 patients. Under Group recreation activity, patients were made to organize pyramids with given paper cups .There were almost 10 groups with 9 members in each group. The tallest pyramid made using the maximum cups in given 1 minute time were awarded prizes. The patients were given 5 questions to be filled by them related to their illness and the answered papers were collected by the Social workers.
Likewise a separate session was arranged for the care givers and they had a class by Mrs.Princy Rijo, Social worker about Do’s and Don’ts in Schizophernia .The participants were grouped into 6 groups of 10 care givers in each group, where in questions related to Schizophrenia was given to each group. The group would discuss on the given problem for 10 minutes and group leader handed over the answered papers to Social worker for further discussion in our next meeting.
Carer Support Governing Body Members were elected for the first time for Schizophernia Peer support Group –
President -Mrs.Mary.K.C and Secretary-Mr.Madhavan.
Almost all our participants brought home made Eatables/Snacks, which were distributed in the group along with tea and juice. 130 attendances were present for the meeting.
The next Silver Ribbon Schizophernia peer support meeting is scheduled in the month of July 2019.
