The 13th Schizophrenia Peer Support Group Meeting (Silver Ribbon Group Meeting) was conducted on 23rd April 2026 at Rajah Rehabilitation Centre (Thanal) from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The programme aimed to provide a supportive platform for individuals with schizophrenia and their families, promoting awareness, shared learning, and recovery-oriented care. The session began with a prayer by the Thanal inmates, creating a positive atmosphere, followed by a welcome speech by Ms. Vincy (PSG member), who highlighted the importance of peer support in mental health recovery. The report of the previous meeting was presented by Mr. Suhail (PSG member). Introductory remarks were delivered by Dr. Pfizer (Consultant Psychiatrist, RCMT), who emphasized treatment adherence, continuous care, and family involvement in rehabilitation. The presidential address by Dr. Anju Krishna (Consultant Psychiatrist, RCMT) focused on reducing stigma and encouraging active participation in support groups.
The main session was conducted by Dr. S.V. Subramaniam (Senior Consultant Psychiatrist, MHC, Thrissur), who provided valuable insights into the management of schizophrenia, stressing early intervention and a holistic treatment approach that integrates medical, psychological, and social support systems. This was followed by an interactive doubt-clearing session, where participants actively engaged and clarified their concerns. As a token of gratitude, Dr. Subramaniam was honoured by Dr. Pfizer, PSG member Mr. Faizal, and Clinical Psychologist Mr. Anilkumar.
The programme also included a sharing session by PSG members, which allowed participants to express their experiences, challenges, and progress, fostering mutual understanding and encouragement. Games and cultural programmes organized by psychology interns added enthusiasm and engagement to the event. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Sheeba (PSG member), who expressed sincere appreciation to all dignitaries, organizers, and participants for contributing to the success of the programme.
